Colchicum for Descanso Gardens

Autumn Crocus (Colchicum) is a clumping perennial grown from corms. Excellent planted in drifts tucked under deciduous shrubs. It blooms in fall in shades of pink, lavender or white. Despite its common name, it is not a crocus at all! Some smaller species need special treatment in scree or trough. It is dormant in summer, needing little water. Colchicum is toxic if eaten and may cause skin irritation.
